feed back
From todays session we have gathered that the theme is clear and interests people which is a positive. Easy to use as long as we get all the links working. The drawing techniques and typography went down a treat so we can carry on this style to finish the translation pages. Adjustment of can sizes and maybe use was suggested and i think this will improve the site. I think all of contributing to the style on each page has given it unity-- this i will carry onto the presentation boards. i'll crack on with them tomorrow guys.

Gif animation style
Think you've got to click on it to make it work.
Heres the animated gif style produced today, working on the others now. Like Rach says we need to sort out the final visual style for tomorrows tutorial, Ive sorted a phone book out to do some experiments for background imagery... links to idea of tele-communications etc.
hey guys just thinking about our overall look think we need to get our backgrounds sorted. am thinking rough and ready bit dirty. could get some efeects on photoshop for our illustrations to match. and yeah ali think we should be working on set tasks each. ive planned the pages with translations could maybe start doing them up on comp now.... shall have a play tonight with backgrounds.

Quick Experiment with Type in Motion
Here's a quick typographic experiement I did this evening. Relates back to the idea of confusion/understanding as the type 'works itself out'. Could use similar idea when 'mapping nottingham' typographically on homepage?
Work
Wicked sounds awsome! We need to work hard and get some designs visuals sorted out so we have something to show him. I think we need to deligate the work better so were not all working on the same thing at the same time. 3 heads are better than 1.

Reply from Sam Winston
Received a reply from the email I sent to Sam Winston the other day. He said he would be happy to look at our work but has to get on a train at 3, should around for a while though. He also sent a few website links to artist/designers who he draws inspiration from. I'll put them up on the list.

Music Video - Connecting image and sound
A really interesting video for Chemical Brothers song 'Star Guitar' by director Michael Gondry. Each object that flys past train window represents a particular sound within the structure of the song.
Accent Experiment
A recording of too local lads, both in their early 20's. I think this way of recording audio will be much more effective for our purpose.

Yeah I reacon that's a good idea... when we're collecting recordings we should mark them all out on maps of nottingham. I'll get as many recordings as possible for next week. We should also continue developing visual ideas too, need to go into the suburbs to photograph locations to create illustrations from.
The Nottingham sounds really good. Pretty sinister with the acordian lol I think the idea about getting Nottingham folk to call each other up will be better tho. There not really natural conversations more like embarrassed talking. and It's definatly more objectivety than talking to randomers on the street. I know it may sound geeky but i think it should be as accurate as possible. As you said earlier Rich locals can tell the differents between the dialog in Nottingham

Re Sam Winston
Nice one rich, good idea. His work is perfect for what we are doing.
That was a nice little intro to his work. you could say something like
"looking forward to the lecture on the 28th Nov.......... Familiar with your work.....went to your exhibition on the ....
If it is possible could you spare a few moments after the lecture, where we show you our work (Write a bit about it). Any comments and advise will be much appretiated and very valuble in the development of the project"
Something along those lines, We know that he will probably stay for a couple of hours, but its easier to play dumb than presume.
If he agrees and we do get some good feedback off him, I'm sure we will, its a good idea to stay in touch and when the project comes to an end show him the finished website.

Sam Winston
Hi guys, Im going to email Sam Winston (the guy whose coming to give a guest lecture in a couple of weeks). Ive been to his exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall, London which was really inspirational, especially for this project. His work explores the relationship between language (and its understanding) and artistic form.
Is there anything in particular you want me to include in the email?
Check out his website... http://samwinston.com/
or last months Grafik magazine, theres a really good artical about his latest work
